Long grass is often at odds with the image of managed grassland. But despite the initial appearance, long grass can be a result of management too.

The number of flowers and associated insect life multiplies in grass which is left alone.

After harvesting the resulting hay can be used to feed animals and left over long time period long established grassland is great at locking up carbon dioxide which is contributing to the greenhouse effect.
